Why Do Perfumes Contain Alcohol?

Types of Fragrance and Their Alcohol Concentration
Not all perfumes are the same. The main difference between fragrance types lies in the amount of essential oils (essence) versus alcohol. Here's a breakdown of each category:
Eau de Toilette (EDT)
- Essential oils: 5% – 15%
- Alcohol: 85% – 95%
- Duration: 3 to 5 hours

Eau de Parfum (EDP)
- Essential oils: 15% – 20%

Parfum / Extrait
- Essential oils: 20% – 30%
- Alcohol: 70% – 80%
- Duration: More than 8 hours
The most intense and luxurious concentration. A few drops are enough to last all day.
